Carat

The carat is a unit in which the mass of precious metals like gold in alloys is indicated. A carat is a 24th mass part of a mass quantity of pure precious metal alloy. 24 karat is pure gold with 12 carat is 50% of the mass of pure gold, and so on. 1 carat is therefore equivalent to 4 1 / 6 mass.
